Due to the extreme cold temperatures they are calling for tonight, Advance Schools will be opening the FEMA Gym at 6:00 pm tonight. If anyone needs a warm place tonight, please come to the gym.

We invite parents, grandparents, and community members to become part of our Advance Volunteer Program! Call 573.722.3584 ext 132 or email jseiler@advancehornets.org for more information. All participants will complete a background check through the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Advance Schools will be opening the FEMA gym to be used as a warming shelter. We will open it Sunday Morning around 8 am and it will remain open until at least Tuesday morning. Should the need for the warming shelter still be there after Tuesday morning, we may keep it open at that time.

Girl Scouts

Through a grant from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, we have access to a program called Varsity Tutors. In addition to on-demand tutoring and essay coaching, Varsity Tutors offers weekly enrichment classes. Some examples include game design, video production, and coding. Students will log-in through their Clever Account and go to Varsity Tutors. This is free for students in our district!

#LTT #LiteracyTipThursday Here is another activity to do at home to support your child's phonemic awareness. Segmenting: Parent - "Can you segment (separate) these words into their individual sounds?" Say the word map, your child will repeat the word and then segment the word into individual SOUNDS (not letter names). Child - "Map > /m/ /a/ /p/ * pet > /p/ /e/ /t/ * tame > /t/ /a/ /m/ * seek > /s/ /e/ /k/ If your child is having difficulty, try this: "Can you tell me the 3 sounds you hear in this word?" Or have them say the word in slow motion to see if they can hear each sound. You can also begin with words with just 2 sounds to support this skill.
