* Bystander doesn't do anything to change the situation. Upstander stands up and tries to help the person.
* A bystander is someone who is looking at someone getting bullied from the side. The upstander is someone who stands up for the person getting bullied by someone.
* Bystander - someone who just watches. Upstander - someone who steps up for someone.

Bullying Prevention week 2 question was "What would you do if you were bullied?". Some student responses were the following:
* I would tell a trusted adult and keep calm.
* I would ask them to politely quit, and if they didn't, I would go talk to the counselor/an adult if the problem keeps occurring.
* I would talk to them about what they said and resolve the issue.

#LTT Literacy Tip Thursday This week's literacy tip is to help your child identify the first phoneme (or letter sound) in a word.
A variation of this activity is to ask if a word has a particular sound: "Is there a /d/ in dog?" You can then try, "Which sound does dog start with - /d/, /sh/, or /l/?" This encourages the child to practice hearing and saying a word in parts- separating the first sound from the rest of the word.

A valuable presentation was held by Bootheel Behavioral Health for students in grades 5 through 12, focusing on managing stress and recognizing critical warnings signs related to mental health. Some student responses on ways to manage stress or words of encouragement for peers included:
* Stay strong, never give up
* Always be mindful and always listen to them.
* Make sure my friend knows they are NOT alone.
* To manage stress, I do notes, listen to music, and quiet time.
* Be loyal, kind, and positive to your friends
* To manage stress, I pet my cat and draw.
* I take deep breaths.

The Student of the Month program is a new initiative aimed at promoting positive behaviors among students and recognizing their achievements. Each month, staff members can nominate students who demonstrate qualities like respect, initiative, teamwork, perseverance, and consistent performance.
The 7th - 9th grade winner is Rowan. Rowan's nominator said, "As a new teacher it is difficult the first couple of days. A handicap makes it even worse. Rowan is always helpful, and steps up to help me with so many things. He is always respectful, helpful, and mannerly." Congratulations, Rowan!
